Emerging policy issues:

Hazardous substances within the life cycle of electrical and electronic products (resolution II/4 D):

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is working with the secretariats of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions to develop, plan and convene a workshop to consider issues associated with electrical and electronic products based on a life-cycle approach.

The International workshop on hazardous substances within the life cycle of electronic and electrical products, will be held from 29 to 31 March 2011 in Vienna, hosted by UNIDO.

A side-event was held on 11 November on the occasion of the Going Green CARE Innovation Conference on electronics and the environment to inform stakeholders about the workshop and to engage stakeholders, particularly in the electronics industry, in preparation for the workshop.

An overview of the objectives and scope of the workshop, as developed by the steering committee, is available on the website of the Basel Convention, at the following link: http://www.basel.int/techmatters/e_wastes/wks-rep-11022010.doc.

Additional information on the workshop can be found here http://www.basel.int/meetings/wrks-eew-unido/index.html
